President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has assured people of Salima that his government will scale up development initiatives in the district if given another mandate in the upcoming September 16 General Elections.

Addressing crowds at Siyasiya Trading Centre in Senior Chief Khombedza’s area on Wednesday, the President said his administration has already made progress in improving livelihoods despite facing national challenges such as drought, disease outbreaks, and the impacts of climate change. He cited the rehabilitation of the M5 road, the expansion of irrigation farming through NEEF, and an increase in Social Cash Transfer beneficiaries in Salima to 11,000 as some of the achievements so far.

Chief Khombedza praised the construction of the Mnema maternity wing, which now serves thousands of people, and the recognition of Sub-Traditional Authority Chotaika. Meanwhile, Salima Central West parliamentary hopeful Jessie Kabwira pledged to push for more infrastructure projects, including new bridges and classrooms, to improve transport and education in the area.

Earlier in the day, President Chakwera addressed another rally at Thavite Trading Centre, where he called on voters to back leaders who will sustain the district’s development drive.
