A Salima-based non-governmental organization, Livingway Education Center (LWE), has called on all Malawians to work together in maintaining peace before, during, and after the 2025 General Elections.

Speaking in an interview on Saturday, LWE Executive Director, Pastor Yunusu Banda, emphasized the need for a collective effort to prevent any actions that could threaten national peace.

“It is the responsibility of every Malawian—both as individuals and through institutions—to reject any form of violence,” said Banda.

He urged voters to refuse to support any candidate who attempts to incite conflict. “If a politician is encouraging violence, Malawians should reject them outright and refuse to give them their vote,” he added.

Banda also encouraged eligible citizens to peacefully participate in the elections, reminding them that in every contested position, only one candidate will emerge as the winner. He warned against believing any politician who claims to be the only possible winner, saying such statements can mislead the public and create unnecessary tension.

A Call for Transparency

Adding to the call for peace, Pastor Ernest Dzekedzeke of Beshayi Last Church stressed the need for authorities to be transparent in the electoral process. He warned that a lack of clear information could create suspicion, leading to unnecessary conflicts.

“The success or failure of an election starts with how well it is prepared. Those responsible must ensure transparency—not just in words, but in action,” said Dzekedzeke.

He further urged Malawians to mentally prepare for any outcome, reminding them that democracy means every candidate has an equal chance of winning or losing. “People must understand that if their preferred candidate loses, that is not a reason to engage in violence,” he said.

Malawi is set to hold its general elections on 16 September 2025.
