The Salima District Football League has received a significant boost following an announcement by M&B Company, manufacturers of the Tamu Tamu Health Drink Ginger, that they have increased their sponsorship from K5 million to K15 million. The move is aimed at promoting football in the district.

Speaking on Friday during the official unveiling ceremony of the league’s return, M&B Managing Director, Macxity Makhuwilra, revealed that K6 million will go towards prizes for participating teams at the end of the league, while the remaining K9 million will support the overall running of the competition.

“As a company operating in Salima, it is important for us to bring people together by supporting a sport that the majority enjoys and that sport is football,” said Makhuwira.

He also reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the development of football in Salima through continued sponsorship of the district league.

Salima District Commissioner, James Mwenda, commended the league for providing a platform for youth to stay active and for nurturing talent.

“Football entertains, keeps people fit, and deters them from engaging in bad behavior. It is also a viable business when approached strategically,” he said.

Mwenda emphasized the need to invest in the capacity building of key football personnel such as administrators, referees, and club focal persons.

Drawing from his own extensive experience in football, he pledged his full support and technical expertise in helping develop the sport in the district.

Chairperson of the Salima District Football League, Adams Cuba Phiri, expressed excitement over the return of the competition, especially with the increased funding. He noted that all participating teams from the Salima zone are motivated and ready to compete.

The league will kick off on June 29 with an opening event dubbed “Bonanza la Mulungu” at SALEA School Ground. Lovers FC will face Fikiza FC in the opening match, with the winner walking away with a cash prize of K300,000.
